Linda Mason is known for her creative and exciting use of color in both Makeup and Art. Born in Sunderland, in the northeast of England her mother inspired in her a fascination for artistic expression through her expert imitations of the hottest designer fashions of the day and eccentric home renovations which transformed their neighborhood.
In 1967 Linda studied with Lancome in Paris then worked for
them in Beirut Lebanon On returning to Paris in 1970 she modeled for five years before starting a Freelance career as a makeup Artist.
In 1976 she became
the premier makeup artist for Helena Rubenstein.
 In
the late 70's, the fashion world was rocked by a revolution, with makeup artist Linda Mason at the forefront. Designers brought fashion to an art form creating runway shows that weren’t simply a marketplace, but full throttle theatrical performances.

Linda worked on early collections for Jean Patou, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Anne Marie Berretta, Theirry Mugler, John Galliano, Commes des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto, Giorgio Armani, Issey Miyake and many others. The diligence, skill, and ingenuity of these designers inspired her to further develop and refine her own work.

In the early 80s, Linda moved to New York, where her cutting-edge work with renowned photographers Deborah Turbeville, Richard Avedon, Steven Meisel and Art Kane continued to make headlines.  The Wall Street Journal stated that “Mason…took face painting out of punk and into high fashion.”  Linda also worked with many celebrities, including Cameron Diaz, Kate Moss, Uma Thurman, Brooke Shields, Carol Alt, Joan Jett, Deborah Harry, Naomi Cambell and Charlize Theron.

Linda launched her makeup company, Linda Mason Elements, inc., in 1987.  Her products have been carried in Barney’s, Henri Bendels, Nordstroms and Sacks Fifth Avenue. From 1998 to 2013 Linda could be found at “Linda Mason, the Art of Beauty” a shop and gallery in Soho, New York City. The space also served as a workshops for professionals  and an experimental space to create hand made compacts, makeup accessories and Art.

Since 1985, Linda has published six books . “Makeup, The Art of Beauty” is used as the handbook for her classes; it is now out in paperback and sold across the world. “Teen Makeup” published in 2005, “Eye Candy” released in May of 2008, a best seller already in reprint in the US, Japan and Russia. Her latest book “Makeup for Ageless Beauty” was launched in the spring of 2011 together with her Freestyle Makeup video Glorious Technicolor.

Linda continues to break boundaries with her fusion of Beauty and Art and to continue to develop, show and sell her visual Art, painting, mixed-media collage, photography and glass art.   Her pieces range in style from classical to abstract, reflecting her dynamic personality and variety of sources of inspiration. A selection can be seen online at www.lindamasongallery.com
