www.astromakeup.com

The AstroMakeup site (www.astromakeup.com) is up and running with the ‘80s packaged limited edition Astrology inspired kits. Make sure when you get a kit to wear all the colors in the kit together in order to feel the full effect. It is the color combination that sends out the vibrations of the sign be it wealth, passion, fascination, sex or love. The site is still improving, but make sure to make your purchase as there are limited amounts. The astromakeup also makes a perfect gift for friends. Even if you are unfamiliar (like I am) or not interested in astrology, it is fun to wear makeup customized according to your sign. It’s great to see the website finally and to see the kits we all put together now available online. Instructional videos of Thalita applying makeup for each sign are also available on the website.

Portrait Season

Usually when we speak about portraits on the blog, it’s Linda’s children’s portraits that take center stage. Today I wanted to talk more about mixed media freestyle, because it’s a process I love, and have had the pleasure of being a part of a number of times, as the first step is also a signature makeup technique of Linda’s. You arrive, a simple make up is done, you’re wearing something very simple, a tank top, or as a man, you’re bare chested. Then the paints are brought out. You start to move, nothing wild, just gently lift your arm or turn your head, a brush moves across your face, down your arm. You begin to wonder as you loosen your posture how you are transforming. What’s taking place? Photos are taken, and then you have some scrubbing to do, a colorful shower in order. You go home, and Linda gets to work. Check out www.lindamasongallery.com under Portraits: Mixed Media Freestyle, the entire process brings out a magical mysterious side, and capturing that experience of becoming living artwork truly makes a commission like this a gift for the person in your life who has everything.

Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!

Here I’m wearing a Medusa costume that I managed to throw together with things I found around the house, save for some toy snakes and a little gold spray paint. Having grown up in a house full of artists, Halloween has always been a competition for who could make the coolest costume, and is always sort of a big deal for me. I love to challenge myself with interesting costume ideas, even though they always seem to turn out to be completely last minute. Luckily, being a makeup artist, I have an advantage at making quick costumes ideas blossom!

While snakes for hair is probably Medusa’s most identifiable trait, going the extra mile on the eye makeup is key if you want to really turn everyone to stone! Here, I delicately blended a white cream base all over my face and neck (after heavily moisturizing). Then I generously applied our Pitch Black over my eyelid, accentuating the eye so as to mimic dramatic lighting (I’m a sucker for silent movies, and am always thinking of ways to recreate the magic of the silver screen!). Once i felt i had a good blend going, i dusted Mediterranean all over the eye. My lips are done similarly- I carefully lined my lips with our Black Graffitigel, and added some Mediterranean on the lips as well, with a little gloss to keep everything  moist. Don’t forget to darken the brows, and wear a gorgeous pair of gigantic false lashes.

check out our instagram for another photo of my costume!……Bye for now Thalita

A Night Out on the Town

Last Friday night after a long afternoon of teaching the “Thriller” dance to 12-year olds, I booked it back to my house to get ready for Linda’s art opening at Studio59BK Jeorge Napoleon Gallery in Gowanus. There I found the newest addition to the ever-changing cast of characters that make up my household – Fitch Ball – who had just come back from a long day at her studio and was all ready to hit the hay when I calmly mentioned Linda’s show. Fitch, a performing poet, art lover & goddess of all things divine has heard little tidbits of the illustrious Masons and roused her energy in a flash. A big fan of Linda’s tank tops since moving in, I picked for Fitch the white on black Astro tank for her to rock with her classic J brand jeans. As I was putting on my go-to products – Moire eyeliner, translucent powder, a hint of Driftwood blush, black mascara, and a light stain of Earth gloss over Lilac on the lips – Fitch, who rarely wears any makeup at all, had that gleam in her eye like she wanted a little something, too. I knew immediately Kingfisher (pictured above, getting a lot of use) Moire’s “partner-in-crime,” was the color for her. I splashed the top of her lids with a stroke of this unmistakable graffitigel, turned up at the outer corners  for a killer look that lasted the entire evening (which of course, ended as usual – with endless hours of dancing at Le Poisson Rouge’s Freedom Party). A stunner without any makeup at all, I think Fitch may have a new favorite accessory.

And, Linda’s art show – for those who missed it – was incredible. Jeorge’s Studio59BK was the perfect setting for such unbelievable beauty. For those who have seen Linda’s paintings line the walls of her gallery and shop all these years, I suggest you take advantage of seeing her work in new settings – www.lindamasongallery.com and save the date when the next show is announced ❤️Zoe

Gemini: Method Kit Comeback

When I go out on the weekends, I have my other favorite go-to product: the Lilac cream eye shadow. If you’ve read my previous blog posts from this past summer, then you already know I just love this product. I love that it is a cream eye shadow because it stays on the entire night and it holds the other eye shadows I apply on top. I’ve received many compliments about this color, so I’d recommend it to any woman. I first apply this on my eyelids as a base and then apply a bone color eye shadow on top. Then I add other eye colors– whether it is a neutral taupe-like color or the violet and grey from the Gemini kit (my all-time favorite, of course!). The combination of lilac and the bone-like color brightens the eyes and hides any tiredness.

Hello from Georgia!

Hello again, everyone! When Linda asked me if I could write a post, I was so excited. I miss it. Since returning to The University of Georgia for my senior year, I have continued wearing my Linda Mason makeup. It is a bit different for me from when I wore color this summer because rarely do women here in Athens, Georgia wear bright lipsticks or eye color, but that hasn’t stopped me.

Getting ready for class on mornings can be a struggle. Sometimes the last thing I want to do is make myself look presentable. My go-to product that I use is the Earth lip-gloss. It’s funny because this summer Thalita told me multiple times that this gloss is one of the best products I could have, and it’s so true! I didn’t wear it until the end of the summer because the black color scared me, but it goes on completely different. It deepens the natural color of my lips, which is perfect because, like I’ve said before, my natural lip color tends to be too light. For other occasions, I apply the Earth gloss after I put on other lipsticks to deepen the color even more.

A red lipstick never goes out of style. Wearing red lips in Athens, GA is not quite as common as in NYC. However, I have worn the Ruby lipstick for a football game. Our colors are red and black, so a red lip completes the game day look. A black outfit paired with Ruby lips will forever be timeless. I encourage every woman to find a red lipstick and wear it confidently.

Thank you to all who read this. I have another go-to product that I’ll talk about in our next blog. Georgia is sweet and slow, but I miss everyone and everything in NYC.

Freestyle Graffitigel looks for all ages

Here are Thalita and I wearing the “Great White” and “Shark” Graffitigels in a freestyle method Makeup. You may have seen the photo of Daisy floating around the internet in freestyle taken to it’s extreme. I started my line of Graffitigels to be able to take freestyle to the street with waterproof gels. This isn’t just for runway, and it doesn’t have to be taken to the extreme. Follow the development of Graffitigels through Instagram @ www.instagram.com/graffitigel.

Provincetown colors

Thalita and I picked out colors inspired by the last photo I showed you of the scene from my bedroom window in Provincetown. Thalita did her own makeup layering the light blue color ” Seafoam” over storm grey and Coal making a soft halo of color around her eyes. The very neutral blush is aptly called Driftwood and on the lips she applied the brown lipcolor. all these colors are shown in the “Water Woman”(formerly known as”Mermaid”) Mini Masterpiece compact. Over the brown on the lips Thalita applied our  new Graffititube lipcolor. If you want a waterproof Provincetown makeup use our “Great White” and “Shark” Graffitigels  I will have Thalita use them creatively this week and  maybe  do my own makeup with those colors too!
One of the highlights of TAS was the opening night which was held at Provincetown Museum http://www.paam.org/ A beautiful space with some great Art. I also discovered other really interesting artists there and loved the seascapes and abstracts of Steve Lyons http://stevelyonsart.com/ .

The Artist Summit

Daisy, Siraj and I just arrived home from The Artist Summit given by the Powder Group in Provincetown. It was my first time in Provincetown. We had the most wonderful time. Not only was the place very inspiring, but Michael DeVellis, James Vincent and their team had organized a truly memorable event with great speakers and very interesting dedicated participants. Having had my boutique and gallery for 15 years I had become a bit of a recluse in certain ways, so meeting that many talented industry people in such a beautiful place was a special treat. The photo I am showing is a photo from our bedroom window, the colors have inspired me for a new makeup look. In my next  blog I will show the colors from my collection and the method of application for this new look. Love Linda
