Another Astrology Blog

It’s been fun learning the makeup color combinations of each sign. Linda gave me her book, “Linda Mason’s Sun-Sign Makeovers,” which was published in 1985, and it’s full of vintage photographs and drawings of timeless models and actresses. I love reading about the characteristics of each sun-sign and learning what makes one so unique. Linda is so knowledgeable and talking with her about the astrological signs is so fun and intriguing. As you all know, before I arrived in NYC for the summer, I knew very little about astrological signs. No one in Georgia talks about his or her sign. Most of my blogs are about the astrological makeup (you all may be sick of me talking about it!), but I have to recommend the astrological kit to every woman reading this. It’s just the perfect start to wearing color.

An Aquarius Wearing Libra

With the astrological kits complete and ready to sell, Linda and Thalita are currently recording How-To videos for each type of kit. Watching someone apply is always helpful. Last Thursday, Linda, Thalita and I were all very busy with the astrological kits. In the midst of working, Linda took a picture of Thalita and me. They had just finished the video for the Libra kit, so Thalita is wearing the Libra makeup. She is an Aquarius, but she looks so pretty in Libra. Don’t forget that you can look great wearing any sign’s makeup! Daisy is a Cancer, and totally embraced the Pisces makeup last week.

Bon Voyage, Zoe

This is my last day with Zoe. Zoe is a very talented dancer who is going off to perform in San Francisco. Watch out for her on the street! I have loved getting to know Zoe and wish her the very best! Mia, on the left (with Thalita in the middle), is an artist interning in the gallery for this month and organizing together with Zoe for the show beginning on July 8. To anyone in the area, please come visit us!

Piece by piece

I think we’ve mastered the assembly line. The amount of work a group of people can accomplish never ceases to amaze me. Thalita, Zoe, and I, along with two newcomers, Natalie and Sabrina, assembled Linda’s renowned astrological kits all day yesterday. Manually inserting individual pieces of makeup was somewhat tedious, but working hands-on with Linda’s products is the best way to learn (and also appreciate the hard work put into production – it can be draining!). There really is a science to the combination of each sun-sign, and as I discover more about the individual signs, each astrological kit makes more sense to me. As the summer heat eventually made us all delirious, we found humor in the job and laughed about our hours of mini factory work. It’s such a blessing working with people I love!

Summer SALE!

Thalita showing off a gorgeous tank top from the sale table. Only $5!

We’ve had a big sale in the past few days, and with the perfect weather, there have been lots of new customers. If you’re in the area, you definitely need to stop by because there are some great deals (some things for only $2!) on hand-screened tops, pillow cases, brush holders, and makeup – such pretty lipsticks! I’ve been wearing the sale items for the past week (I’m wearing the Raspberry lipstick today), and I’ve become obsessed.

We’ve had so much fun meeting new people, and also revisiting with past visitors. Anna, who has visited once before with friends, stopped by the studio on Tuesday after learning about the sale from Facebook. She is a makeup artist herself and left with a bag full of goodies from our sale. Thank you, Anna, for stopping by – We loved having you back!

Smokey-eyed Therapy

I don’t know if it was the weather or what, but my energy was dead yesterday. To revive me, Thalita gave me a grey, smokey-eyed makeover. She went more dramatic this time using two different shades of grey eye shadow. She also gave me a very helpful tip: because I have heavy lids, I can apply eye shadow to my outer eyelid and continue fading it all the way to the brow. It may seem as though all we do in the studio is play with makeup, but since this is an internship for me, I am learning more and more about the actual business side of The Art of Beauty by Linda Mason. Today Daisy introduced me to Constant Contact and showed me how simple the program is to use. There are so many little things with technology and business that I continue to discover. I’ll continue to share in future posts what I learn from the more serious business side. Oh, and Thalita’s makeover was definitely a pick-me-up, and my day got much happier and lively. Thank you, Thalita!  Lynley
P.S. You can even find smokey eyes in nature, check out this bird!

International Friday

Clara from Sweden stopped into the shop on her way to School in South Korea and became very excited about our lipstick sale. She  looked great in our Moire Graffitigel liner which Zoe applied . It really brought out the blue in her eyes. A great break to a Friday afternoon  inventory count.

Throwback Thursday: 1960s

Thalita did a 1960s look on me. Don’t you just love what she did with the eyes?! I can’t get over how talented she is. The makeover took awhile, but Thalita did a perfect job. Notice the eyelashes. I have never worn fake eyelashes, and it felt as if my eyelids were lifting weights. She applied a much darker base to my face. She said the 1960s was somewhat the beginning of women striving for that sun kissed look. She finished the look with nude lips. I asked Thalita how she knew so much about the makeup from different decades. She said she learns the most by watching movies. The look she gave me is very similar to Veruschka and Twiggy in the sixties.

Glow

Mia, Lynley, Zoe, and Allyssa wearing Glow on this gorgeous day in the city.

A hot topic of discussion yesterday was lipstick. I organized and counted inventory of all fourteen Matte lipsticks. I love each of the names – so feminine! You can see all the names and colors on the main website under “Eyes and Lips.” Thalita talked about how a lipstick gives a woman a confident, and maybe even an intimidating, look. My favorite lip color from the Matte collection is the very popular Scarlett. It’s bold yet pink enough for a woman to still embrace her femininity.

Today Zoe, Mia, Allyssa, and I are all wearing Glow lipstick from the “Classic Creams” collection. It’s a bright red-orange coral and perfect for the summer! I am slowly but surely becoming more comfortable wearing color. I think I may have a new obsession with lipstick. I love it.
