We love Jene! She always finds time in her busy actress/ singer schedule to come along and brighten up our classes. We have so many different interpretations, here are two of them from the latest class. The one on the left the makeup is by Jamie for the eyes class and the one on the right the makeup was done by Anastasia for the bridal class.

I love this piece “Astray on Seaburn beach, In the shadow of things long gone”. This was inspired by the Lighthouse that I remembered as a child where my father, brother and I used to go fishing very early on a Sunday morning. I hated fishing but never liked to be left out of anything, so I would brave the cold and my sorry feelings for the fish and create memories with my family. I showed this piece last November at the National Glass Centre Museum in Sunderland my home town.  Every small part of this mixed media piece is a large part of my life so I do hope that it brings a lot of money for Nac Kids Can www.nackidscan.org as it is such a worthy cause. It will be auctioned at their Annual Gala Benefit on November the 15^th at the Waldorf Astoria. Maybe you can help this organization in some way, 50% of these children have multiple diagnoses. It is thanks to my friend Gloria Tarigo of Let them Eat Cake fame that I learnt about this organization.

We were very fortunate for the class photo shoot to be able to have Jasmine from Basic Model Management back again. Momoko, her artist, did such a beautiful, sensitive job on the makeup. And, I have discovered that one of my interns, Gabby, is a genius for styling (watch out Grace). Pasqui inspired us also with the innovative hair style. I must say, everything fell into place, even the weather and it took me a couple of days to come down from the high I was on.

We had another great class with the New York Makeup Academy Japan. The graduate students of the school in Japan were all very talented with a strong style of their own. We had lots of fun, especially at the Halloween party the night before they left (photo above).

Also, check out Thalita and her boyfriends Halloween costumes. Thalita was the Eygptian Queen Nefertiti and Thalita’s boyfriend, Mitch, was Anubis, judge of the dead.

Makeup for Ageless Beauty was such a great experience to write and to be able to photographer the women in the book. Take a look at the preface photos and pick up the book if you haven’t already!

These are the colors that Laura used in the makeup she did on Thalita in the previous post. With the exception of the “Purple Impact” they are all from the Night Lights line- which are available on our website lindamason.com. You can see against skin how brightly these colors show up and what an interesting sheen they have. The Green Sapphire in particular is a great shadow for a smokey eye- Laura used it on Thalita to give emphasis and lift to the outer corners of her eye and the Gold Bar she used to give a light to the inner corner.

Last Tuesday I was back in the shop and got the opportunity to do Thalita’s makeup which was so much fun! Linda directed me to create a look with a strong eye. The photo shoot had a kind of Film Noir energy and we thought Thalita would be perfect for a silent film. -Laura

Today at The Art of Beauty, Erin, Thalita and Zoe were all here. I had them practice making up mini masterpieces for each other. Look at the results – Isn’t it amazing how color really is an expression of your personality? They first chose their compact, then with the help of the consultant, filled it with colors. Erin bought hers! Zoe and Thalita would have loved to have bought theirs, but it will have to be for another day. Zoe did, however, choose a more sensible purchase of an Earth base to match the Earth concealer she already had. Come by and pick out your own personal palette – it’s a fabulous experience and will change your conception of color! See you next week.

This is my birthday week. On my birthday I had breakfast with two of my dearest friends. Lots of  phone calls with Birthday wishes all day, some beautiful gifts  and a delicious dinner “en famille” up in Harlem . One great gift, showing the products that I have out in Russia, was this article in Russian Vogue by the beauty editor Daria Kuznetsova. Thank you Daria for this beautiful page!

One day a few years ago a very beautiful young woman with a great sense of humour walked into my shop and asked if I would sell her my line for her new boutique in Russia. Natalia Vlasova already had a successful career as a makeup artist and also a successful  makeup school.  Her and her friend totally charmed me and I am very happy to say that my line has just launched  in her space “Kraski” Maybe next stop Moscow!      www.kraski.mosmake.ru .
