Makeup Book launched in Russia

Yesterday at the end of the day my Book Agent, Jayne Rockmill, came over to the Workshop bringing a celebratory bottle of Champagne along with copies of my book “Makeup, The Art of Beauty” in Russian , it has just launched there. The cover was done by a different artist, but the publishers there feel it will give it more of a mass appeal for the Russians! I’m excited to have a whole new audience of makeup artists and lovers. Another wonderful reason to celebrate the holidays.

Christmas Day

I hope that you all enjoyed your Christmas as much as I did. My Grandson opening his first Christmas gifts and the men in the family cooking fabulous food while my daughter, grandson  and I hung out together and attended the beautiful Christmas Day service at our Church, St Luke in the Fields on Hudson Street.

Braving the Storm

Our computers were down after storm Sandy and we had problems for a few weeks, but the wonderful concert  121212 at Madison Square Gardens  to raise money for Sandy brought back to me that we had such an interesting makeup class during and after the storm working without heat and electricity, that I must tell you more about it.  I was so fortunate to have my niece Julie and her two daughters turn up to make me a fabulous surprise for what was supposed to be a 3 day visit but ended up being 7 days. Together with my neighbor they saved the class as they modeled each day for us after the storm. So what could have been a disaster turned out to be fun for us and we got to spend more time together. Julie used to visit me in Paris when I worked there and I did so much makeup on her in her teens.   My neighbor Jennifer in the upper left corner is wearing the Bardot Kit $54 online. Amanda below her has on the eyeshadows peach sunrise and red earth. Jennifer on the right has the gulf oil (black) graffitigel, and Julie has a favorite lipstick of ours on called Jane.

Be a Bond Girl in 2013

We were taking a look at all of the Bond girls, some pretty beautiful girls, and this last one Bérénice Marlohe is really gorgeous. Her makeup is strong and very much in vogue, but a little lacking in innovation. These Bond movies have been going on for a long time, so here is our update of how we would have made up our Bond girl. Maybe the next time around they’ll be as adventurous with the makeup and hair as they are with the effects. This is Chihiro a wonderful Japanese model who is featured on my makeup my DVD “Glorious Technicolor” which is now $19.95. We process the discount upon purchasing

Natalie Gelman

Check out the incredible new EP of Natalie Gelman, “Streetlamp Musician.” Natalie was a great inspiration and model for many of my photographs. She is a very talented singer-songwriter and I find the most exciting songs on the album are “Long Stemmed Roses” and “The Lion.” Everything she does she gives 100%. It was really great having her work here, now she’s too busy with her singing and recording. I shall be featuring every month in 2013 one of my past assistants or interns and their progress as they all seem to be having very full and interesting lives and have made important contributions to the character of the company.  I feel very fortunate to have had in the past, and still have today, such great people working with me.

Brush Tips

These brushes should be washed with soap and very hot water. Work the soap into the hairs and make sure you rinse well, then squeeze the hairs between a towel. I like to use a bar of Camay or a natural soap. Do not rub the brush on the towel. You should rinse in water that is almost too hot to touch. Do not leave the brushes sitting in water. Immediately squeeze the water out and leave to dry naturally.

Cocktails & Cocktail Makeup

We don’t have any photos from the Christmas party last week because we were too busy drinking cocktails and doing makeup. We had Peach Bellini’s with Pallini’s Peachcello and Dark & Stormy’s with Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda Rum, while the artists did dark and stormy makeup on the guests to match. The most popular product that evening, however, was the Odette Mineral Shimmer Powder – a great party product and definitely more in harmony with the Peachcello. We had a wonderful party with a nice flow of friends coming and going throughout the evening.
For our clients over 21 who didn’t make it to the party, we will be continuing our celebration throughout the holiday season with Pallini Peachcello cocktails! Hope to see you!
