Lipstick Mixing Palette

We’ve had such a nice response to the lip mixing chart we have put together a kit to show you which colors would be the best for you to have: the brown, nude, ruby, violet, red hot, hot pink, and orange. These last three are so bright and heavily pigmented that they allow you to add touches of color to all the lipsticks you already have to give them more life. The brown can be used to deepen the colors and give them more depth, the nude to lighten, the ruby is fabulous pure blue-red, and make your hot pink more fuchsia with the violet triangle. You can buy these colors singularly online (lindamason.com) or choose a mini-masterpiece and email (linda@lindamason.com) us telling you would like a lip special 2011. The colors sell individually for $13 each.

Mixing Lip Colors- Custom Lipstick

As a professional makeup artist, I have always mixed my lip colors, I very rarely have used just one lip color. So when I made the lip solos I made the colors specifically for mixing. I asked Thalita to make a chart for an important Russian client we have on how the colors mix and what a great variation you can get. Laura saw the chart and was over-the-moon, because she felt it looked great and that everybody needed to see it, so here it is.

Volunteering at the First Presbyterian

For many years now my church St. Luke in the Fields has helped with the running of the homeless shelter at the First Presbyterian on 5th avenue and 12th street. It is run during the winter and they are always in need of volunteers for this either over night or just preparing things. You don’t have to commit an awful lot of time, I’m a workaholic, so for me it is better to be there over night and then I’m off to an early start the next morning. I happen to only be doing it twice this winter, but I recommend trying it for more because it’s rather good getting to know the men a little. They are need of volunteers, read all about it at this link:

Makeup Artist Accessories- Apron & Brushholders

I was so excited when Thalita told me she wanted to buy one of my aprons. Because I did these a while ago and was happy to see that my interns find them cool.
I have always manufactured everything in the US and was very happy to read a wonderful article about Anna Sui and to know that she was a big advocate of US-made. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more difficult as the smaller manufacturers are bought out by bigger companies and will not make certain things that they made before unless you order a very large quantity which are made in China. Fortunately I have managed to find a new manufacturer for my brushholders and aprons. As my stock is getting very low and I love the idea of continuing with my canvas accessories as they almost become better once they are worn a little and washed a couple of times. If you happen to want the apron that Thalita is wearing with the same design you’re going to have to order now for this Christmas! We do have a few other different designs left however…

The Best Burgundy Lipstick

One of my very favorite lipstick colors is a color called “Joan”. It’s a deep, rich color made up of reds with a purply-blue undertone. It looks great and creates the same sophisticated effect on just about any skin coloring or hair color. -Laura

Linda’s Must Sees: Ben-X and Any Human Heart

I never crease to be amazed by the quality of the programs on PBS. The Saturday night independent movie I always watch, but this last Saturdays, Ben-X, was particularity exceptional. The director was  Nic Balthazar. This Belgian film tells the story of an autistic boy who uses online gaming to escape from the harsh realities of his daily life. http://acko.net/blog/impressive-belgian-film-on-autism

Sunday night the final part of the series, Any Human Heart was also incredibly moving. “Every human being is a collection of selves…we never stay just one person.” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/anyhumanheart/index.html
Maybe being British and getting older, as we all are, made it more poignant, but I think anybody could appreciate the film because the quality of the actors and characters was exceptional. This is a must see too, but you must see all three episodes together.  Kim Cattrall was so good in her part, I didn’t realize it was her, even though she was still playing a feisty sex symbol.

Winter Skincare

Don’t you think this would make a great corner in your bathroom? This winter my cleanser has been a life-saver, it is so creamy and takes off all my eye makeup, I shouldn’t be telling you this, as I also have a great eye makeup remover… But, I tend to be lazy and it’s really great to be able to just massage my face and eyes with this thick cream, wipe it off and then rinse my face. Please don’t come and buy it as I want to use it all myself and don’t have very much left.
I also use the Jojoba oil on my nose to prevent the dryness I often get in the winter. It’s really working, I haven’t had any dryness this winter. Jojoba oil and almond oil are the two oils closest to the skin’s own natural oils, so they’re perfect for sensitive skin and leave the skin soft and silky, but not shiny or greasy.

Jayne the Typhoon

Jayne, my book agent, came in yesterday and like a whirlwind, rearranged the shop. It was great to have someone with so much energy come in and take a fresh look. We then celebrated her birthday with fabulous cocktails at the Soho Grand.
