The Spectator

Last night I received in the mail The Spectator, the British version. Great magazine. But, somebody sent it to me from Belgium without a letter or anything so now I am totally confused, is there something about me in there?, or an idea for my business? was this just a friend who thought I would enjoy this? or an ex beau, a journalist who has an article in the magazine who is wanting to prove to me he’s made a success of his life?? This is a great mystery. I poured over the magazine enjoying every minute of it, even the “Motoring” article by Alan Judd that made me want to rush out and buy the new Jaguar C-x75. I still could not figure out why somebody had taken the trouble to send me this from Belgium, but thank you and could you please send it to me every week?

Changing Your Foundation for a Different Climate

One of my regular clients came in today. How lucky, she was off to Thailand on vacation. I usually brighten her skin by mixing a very pale liquid base for her. But, as she was going to this warmer climate I gave her a deeper shade of cream base, called Tiger Lily, which has an SPF in it so that it would also protect her from the sun.  A thin layer of this base with a damp sponge will warm up her face slightly blending it in with a more tanned body and making her more beautiful in the light of Thailand.

The Best Red Lipstick for a Champagne Blond

My friend Paula came over yesterday with the most fabulous bottle of champagne, Perrier-Jouet 1995, and we celebrated the new year. The glasses she brought  were so pretty, I just had to take a photo of her sipping the champagne.  I added Red Hot lipcolor to her lips to make them more vibrant. Paula is a reknowned psychic, check out her TV show on New York Cable. www.paularoberts.org

Pale Skin Beauties Should Make the Most of These Snow-Filled Skies

The light at this time of the year is especially flattering for very pale skins, unless you get a red nose. So if you have a really pale skin now is the time to play it up by enhancing it with a light layer of a lightweight white base. You can highlight the look with a white cream blush like Vodka from my line of cream blushes. Don’t forget if you do have a red nose, if it’s small don’t worry about it, but if it’s large then make sure to add extra coverage with a concealer.

Choosing a good foundation that matches your skin tone can be a really daunting process, however, to make the things a little bit easier for you, we always recommend to opt for the acne prone skin foundation these base-makeup champs give you just the right amount of coverage, are non-comedogenic, and won’t give a ‘cakey’ layered finish.

Why not try something like the makeup, makeup artist Venetia did on Laura:

Makeup is like Art

One of my New Years resolutions is to trust more in these fabulous makeup artists I’ve trained. I sent Thalita off on New Years Eve to do some makeup in the afternoon and then a fashion show in the evening. She did a wonderful job I was very impressed.

As much as I can try to plan out a makeup, it always seems to take on a life of it’s own. It is exactly the same as painting, for me that is… Just before the holidays, I was able to work with a lovely young actress from Los Angeles to model in one of my makeup DVDs. She was very inspiring. I had the intention when I started out of using a pale lipcolor and I ended up using Ruby, a fabulous deep blue red (see the lips to the left).

The Best Red Lipstick

I have a few great reds in my line, but my favorite is still the first one I made, “Red Hot”. See for yourself how good it looks on Dana.

The Gallery Under Construction for Our Holiday Party

Take a look at this video. I’m pretty bad at decision making; I don’t quite know how to set up the gallery for our holiday event this Saturday. I have received back part of “The Visitors to the SeaFront” show from England two days ago. If I don’t get the others back by Friday we’ll have to replace them with limited edition prints.

Come by Saturday and see for yourself if I have dared to leave the gallery like this…

We are experimenting with some new fragrances in the workshop. Jasmine and sandalwood are my favorites and Laura likes vanilla. What are your favorites?

Tips on Foundation Application

Face is still one of the most difficult things for a women to do correctly. Here are some tips:
1. If you’re using a sponge, always apply with a damp sponge for two reason, a. you will use less product b. you will be able to blend the base more easily and more transparently
2. Cream base, if you’re doing an all over application, should first be worked into the skin as you would with a liquid base and then product should be re-applied where more coverage is needed. With my red nose, I usually add foundation with my fingers before adding powder.
3. If your neck color is lighter than your face color go in the direction of lightening and brightening your base to match your neck
