That Thing She Did by Michael McDonnell

It’s here, a novel uncovering the nuances and earthy romantic character of the fashion world. Filled with characters you are drawn to uncover more and more about, the text takes on a certain rhythm that only a musician could lend to a narrative. Suddenly you are a fly on the wall in each scene becoming more aware of just how tangled, living at a certain level of intensity, life can become. Michael McDonnell in his premier novel, captures the bitterness and the sweetness, and you get to decide which is which. Just crossing the halfway mark all I can recommend is to pick up a copy for yourself! Click on the image above and go straight to Amazon for your own kindle version or paperback.

Client Profile: Mimi Oka

Mimi has been a regular client for a number of years now, purchasing both Art and Makeup, as well as being featured in Linda’s book Makeup for Ageless Beauty. It was fantastic to hear that her wonderful art projects captured in the book Orphic Fodder was acquired by Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University! Congratulations to both Mimi Oka and Doug Fitch. They have been collaborating for a number of years on ‘gastro-experiential’ art with fun results. Check out their website and purchase the book here: http://orph.us/index.htm.

Linda loves the color ACID on Mimi in this photo. It’s a solo eye-color that you can buy singularly or as a part of a mini-masterpiece. The color SAND in the outer corner of the eye is great for this spring.

Spring Equinox

Its been quite a week. I won’t enter into all of the details but will mention my hard drive with all my artwork on being dropped and broken. I drowned my sorrows in the middle of the day with champagne at David Burke’s Kitchen. I was very lucky, they have a new barman , Kevin, he is a Stand up Comedian so he lifted my Spirits and sent me away laughing. I got back to work and am happy to say that we have still managed to have a very productive week. The Weddings page is up at www.lindamason.com with direct links to our new agency site www.lmeagency.com. My artists are very excited about this showcase for their work, the  exposure and  work opportunities that they will receive. Playing Up What You’ve Got: Highlighting your collarbone

Sometimes it’s nice to do something different then heavy jewelry for a night out. Instead you can show off your decolletage. We have 3 products for highlighting the collarbone at the shop that all have different effects; the Pearl Nightlite (the one I’m pointing to $23) which is a loose powdered eye shadow that gives a sparkly look, the Vodka cream blush ($21, slightly covered on the left) has a subtler effect. However, it’s Champagne that works best! Our mineral powder (on the right $32.) So, next time you have an evening out and a low-cut dress, don’t overdo it with jewelry and instead accentuate your natural beauty.

Angle Brow Brush vs. Eyeliner Brush

I love my dark green eyeliner brush. It has a very small, firm tapered head and I really think that for most women it’s really the best eyeliner brush out there. However, I do like to use my angle brush from time to time to line the eyes with, especially if I’m in a hurry. I place the angle at the outer corner and then draw the line inwards. It doesn’t allow me to get right between the lashes as the smaller brush does, but if someone has thick black lashes that’s not always so necessary.

The Best Hair Product

We were so lucky that the hair stylist Jeorge Napoleon was available to do the hair on our latest shoots. He did a beautiful job on Tatiana, Alaina and Courtney and spoiled us with his products too. I was very skeptical to use his HydroHair as my hair is very fine and straight and as you can see from Jeorge’s photo (Tatiana is next to him) his is the exact opposite and he was raving about Thalita my assistants curly hair and how great the product would be for her. What a surprise, it was great for me too and made my hair silky and very manageable, not at all flyaway as it usually is in this climate. www.hydrohair.com. A little history about Jeorge… we used to work on designer shows together in the 80’s so it was such a pleasure to have him return into my life via a mutual friend. My assistants were flabbergasted at how easily and well he did the hair, I told them “that’s experience for you!”
Tatiana is wearing the liquid base in the Water shade and once again our great Ruby lipstick and burgundy lip liner.

Blusher Brush vs. Contouring Brush

I really have got a great brush manufacturer and I’m very proud of my brushes. I love going out to the factory to meet the girls who work on perfecting the haircuts (of the brushes). It’s really fun. My short blusher brush has a great shape to it and works really well for our bronzer or with softer blushes such as our Bare Betty Blush. I prefer our contouring brush for the deeper colors to be able to place them so that they contour the cheeks with color as it is a smaller, firmer brush which allows you more control of the color.

Osaretin Ighile

Today I took a little time to go to Volta New York at 82 Mercer (its over tonight) and was happy to see the works of one of my favorite artists Devin Troy Strothers he is uplifting and humorous . I was enjoying the other art too then I discovered Osaretin Ighile and fell totally in Love! I was so moved by his work. If I had had $125,000 and a larger apartment I would have purchased his sculpture Oba Ovonramwen of Benin in a flash it is a deal and will be worth millions in a few years. Kudos to the Skoto Gallery. http://www.skotogallery.com/viewer/mgr.shop/templates/product/template.5.asd/scspid/121

Success Story

Success Story by John Howard Lawson is playing at the Robert Moss Theatre until the 24th of March. Tami McCarthy, playing the role of Miss Farley, came by on Thursday evening and Thalita transformed her into a 30’s style secretary. We’re looking forward to seeing her again throughout the run of the play. She went off with a ruby lipcolor and burgundy pencil. check out www.successstoryplay.com
